Our History

Baobab Chalets has deep roots in Musina. In 1996, Rinus and Katryn Hugo purchased a municipal caravan park and saw an opportunity to build something special for travellers in this gateway town.

They started by erecting 8 chalets, and four years later expanded with another 8. By 2008, the original caravan park section of the property was sold, and an additional 12 chalets were built on the retained portion — bringing the total to the 28 chalets we operate today.

What started as a simple idea has grown into one of the most well-known and trusted self-catering destinations in Musina — a reliable stopover for business travellers, border crossers, and those simply looking for a comfortable place to unwind.

1996

The Beginning

Rinus & Katryn Hugo purchase the municipal caravan park and erect the first 8 chalets.

2000

First Expansion

A further 8 chalets are added, growing the property to 16 chalets total.

2008

28 Chalets

The original caravan park section of the property was sold, and 12 more chalets were built on the retained portion — reaching the 28 we have today.
